The Teen Health Connection Youth Drug-Free Coalition invites parents and teens to sign a pledge to stop underage drinking and prescription drug abuse.
The most commonly used and misused drug among teenagers is alcohol. Young people start drinking at an average age of 13 years old. Even more, than a quarter of teenagers said their parents provided them with alcohol.
According to one study, one out of every five teenagers admitted to taking a prescription medicine without a prescription. The great majority of teenagers who abuse prescription medicines get them from their friends, family, and acquaintances’ medical cabinets. Parents are also not communicating the risks of prescription drug misuse and abuse as often as they talk about illegal drugs.
